blue and buff titanium

I have been busy clearing up my art room which is a time consuming business! Time seems to fly by and before I know it many months passed and I find I have collected a great deal of unnecessary stuff. One being heaps of cardboard boxes I actually believe will be useful one day! and also a massive bag full of old carrier bags or plastic shopping bags again that become completely forgotten once I have stored them away! Also far too many art books, brushes, paints and more paints galore, kept for years!  The thing about clutter is that you somehow fail to see it after a while.  I have to ask myself do I really need this! most of all is it actually useful and of course does it give me joy! Anyway I still can't move in my art room because I have turfed out everything from the cupboards, drawers and boxes.

In the midst of all this chaos I found this painting in a box. I started a little while ago putting things into boxes, and one of the things I put into boxes are paintings! I really enjoy opening a box and not knowing what is inside it! Mind you the problem with this is that I have heaps of boxes with stuff in it that I don't see unless I open the box! so I think it is still classed as clutter! I have now released this painting from it's box and remember painting it and then keeping it safe in a box until I wanted it. This was actually a long time ago maybe even ten years ago it has rested quietly within a box and now it is on my art room wall. I remember being pleased with the buff titanium paint and the blue which is so bright and pretty, I managed to blend it into the sky colour too. The best thing is that when I viewed this painting again I felt happy and uplifted by the blue. It is just a small painting only 12 x 12 inches but I do feel inspired to paint this again on a really big canvas!

I hope you are all well my painting friends, it is so quiet here in blogging land, everyone seems to be on facebook these days. I guess this is a quiet and secret garden to be in!

Happy painting to you all!

  1. Lovely surprise to find this. I, too, keep those cardboard boxes for later use that never comes! ha ha We humans do tend to clutter our spaces. My little art room is very small but it still could use a good clean out once in a while. Easier for me to store watercolors on paper, I'm sure, but they still pile up and stack up all over! Yes, FB seems to be where all the artists have gone but I don't feel I get the same honest interest there in my work that I do on my blog - I mean, a LIKE is fine, but what does it really mean?

    1. Hi Rhonda, good to hear you too have a mountain of cardboard boxes too! I managed to completely clear our bedroom of unnecessary stuff. It is so nice to have that open space where I actually feel more relaxed. But how long will it stay that way! But for now it is great to be able to walk into and sleep in a room that is clutter free and very peaceful! I find the problem with facebook is that I become a bit overwhelmed with too much information and sometimes miss my friend's artwork because there is too much there. I miss blogging land as it feels more like I am keeping a journal which is a nice feeling. Hope more folk return here.

  2. Good morning Caroline... "Clutter" to those who live outside the art world arouses ire and in my own case... the wrath of my "everything-in-its-rightful-place" wife Deb. For me... clutter and chaos becomes a (albeit sprawling) resource from which emerges inspiration and unbridled freedom.

It brings together this old standard:

"What is one (wo)man's junk... is another (wo)man's treasure."

I see and feel the possibility... and similarity that this "found" (treaure) represents to you.

Go for it Lass!... Looking forward to your new adventure and direction with it!

    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

PS The disinterest and retreat from blogging land... while it is saddening... represents to me a natural culling of the passionate for art's sake... from the $$$$$ seekers. Not at all the same breed. Sharing is a word foreign to those who value and pursue wealth and popularity above all else.

A recent quote from Sarah Genn's "Twice Weekly News Letters" attributed to Homer better describes the joyful motivation of those who live with a passion for lifetime learning:

    "The journey is the thing."

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

    1. Hi Bruce, but for me having no clutter makes me feel peaceful and more relaxed. My parent's house was always full of things and many of them never got used. I also think it was what folk did during their life time - collect things - the things became a part of the people who lived in the house. I used to hire a studio in a beautiful modern building. Walking into the studio there was for me a wonderful experience as it was a large empty room full of light. I could focus on my work better too. So I do hope I find a way to create a similar space in my artroom here at home. Watch this space!! maybe it will happen this time. Though I am itching to carry on with my painting on the easel that has been sitting there patiently for a whole week untouched! thanks for dropping by and for your nice comment.
