Clearing Sky

'Clearing sky' oil on linen 30 x 40 cm.

'There is a society where
none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music,
in its roar.

Lord Byron 1788 - 1824

The quiet and grey days of January make one inclined to stay indoors and keep warm. The studio becomes a place where I can gaze out of the window and watch the birds soaring up into the wild sky, notice the garden birds searching for food and even playing in the trees especially the chattering sparrows. It seems as if time is standing still, so quiet are the days, but it is a good time, a time to be still and to simply be, to understand that each season has times to be busy and outside and times to be quiet and more contemplative.

Wishing you all happy painting days this January.

  1. Hi Caroline. There is certainly a lethargy about this time of year, partly because of the weather, but also because of the low light and short days I think. Your painting hints at more inspiring times, with the sense of light breaking through the greyness. A beautiful depiction of the effect of sunlight.

  3. You have been having happy painting days Caroline! This one is gorgeous. I have noticed so many colours in the storms this year, this painting has captured them. In these shorter days I have been trying to catch up on my reading... Spring will be here soon.

    1. Thank you Lisa for visiting my blog, we certainly have been having lots of storms of late, hope all is well in your part of the country. Spring will be here soon, the trees and the spring bulbs are all starting to make an appearance. Saw some snow drops on my walk last week.

  4. Good morning Lass... Your painting beautifully captures that "crossing over" period of transition between between great activity and solitude.

Making time for contemplation provides the opportunity to fortify the spirit and the creative juices. This painting... as Keith so wonderfully suggests.. "hints at more inspiring times."

I think this statement beautifully encapsulates what you have laid down in your wonderful painting today!Bravo!

    Good Painting in 2016!
