Art around the Firth

'Gale over Birsay' Orkney 30 x 30 cm

This is one of the oil paintings I have just finished for the event Art around the Firth.  The Beauly Gallery is one of the galleries taking part and have invited me as one of their artists to exhibit small paintings for the event.  It is being held during 13th to 22nd June and is an open studio and gallery trail around the Beauly Firth here in the highlands of Scotland.

I am working on new paintings for the Aberdeen Art Fair, this year it is to be held on the 5th, 6th and 7th of September at the Music Hall in Aberdeen. I have been invited to exhibit four paintings at the event by the gallery Country Frames near Insch. Aberdeenshire.  It will be the third year I have shown work at the very well attended event and with Country Frames Gallery who work very hard each year to make their beautiful Gallery Stand very successful. I got a mention last year in the July edition of the Scottish Field magazine's art diary section  with a photo of one of my paintings which sold at the event.  Many thanks to Yvonne who owns the gallery with her husband Stuart for putting forward my details to the magazine. Do make a point of putting this date into your diary as it is a wonderful event to visit. as well as paintings there are also beautiful sculptures being exhibited too. More details about the event closer to the day.

  3. Hi Vandy, many thanks for your comment, looks like you need a holiday in Scotland in the future, I think you would love the scenery for your painting.

Thank you Ronda, glad you like the painting and hope all is well with your own lovely paintings. I am following your blog and the Carol Carter workshop looks fascinating.

  4. This piece is breathtaking! The composition is so bold and creative, in the way you created the sky... taking over the land that way. I don't think I've ever seen a painted sky that has such depth to it. Wow!

  6. Hi Katherine, thank you for visiting my blog and for your lovely comment! I hope all is well with you.

Hi Jan, I was going to reply to your comment in my other post about the difference that smooth paint and thick textures can make to a painting. I am committed now to the more textured way of working which is often time consuming as I have to let each layer of paint dry before going on to the next stage, it is hard to be that patient at times! I found the very smooth painted beach paintings seemed to evoke a feeling of stillness which is very different to the energy in the textured paintings. Thank you for visiting and writing again Jan it really does encourage me to keep going! I hope the sun is shining over with you at Niagara falls.

  9. Caroline was just thinking after reading your concerns re thick paint drying-you might like working with cold wax medium. not only can you build texture but it dries quickly!

  10. Hi Jan, I was thinking of buying some cold wax medium as you have mentioned it before. I am very tempted by the one by Gamblin. I was wondering if it was more economical to use as it would bulk up the paint.
